Sensiblie Diets… Using Scent
March 30th, 2005 by NancyEver thought about maintaining a sensible diet… using scent?
A few years ago, a study at St. George’s Hospital in London showed that a sweet-scented (in this case, vanilla-scented) patch worn on the skin could help curb one’s cravings for sweet foods.
The patch, the study found, was “as effective as some of the new slimming drugs, but without the side effects.” Of course, it only works for controlling one’s intake of sweet foods–the patch won’t affect one’s appetite for things like “savory snacks or alcohol.”
So are the patches available today? Yup. One example of how this science has been applied is the Aroma Patchâ„¢, a “new aromacology patch for use as part of your dietary management,” which, according to the site, acts as a “constant reminder to help you eat more sensibly.”
