Help from WebMD
June 26th, 2005 by Georganna HancockLong known as one of the earliest and most authoritative websites for consumer medical reference, WebMD has jumped into the weight loss plan arena with its Healthy Diet program. They say:
The WebMD Weight Loss Clinic helps you to lose weight safely and effectively, without needlessly restricting what you can eat.
- You respond to an in-depth eating habits evaluation.
- We use your answers to prepare your detailed nutritional analysis report, so you can see where your diet needs improvement.
- Based on your eating habits and food preferences, we prescribe your eating plan.
- Our interactive journal makes it easy to track your foods and provide you with weekly feedback of your progress.
You can currently join the plan for two weeks of free consultations to develop a personalized weight loss strategy, based on FDA guidelines and supposedly adapted to your tastes, eating habits, and lifestyle.
I have to admit that I’m a little skeptical, especially because the alt tag for the image below (from the website) reads “Using the same program keeping the French slim for more than 15 years”.
Say, what? How did the French know what our FDA was thinking 15 years ago? I think I’d prefer a plan based on USDA guidelines, too, not ones from the FDA. I’m more interested in food than drugs (these days). And I’m wondering if they really can “create an eating plan that will conform to your lifestyle and preferences”, which for me includes a lot of web surfing, lounging in a Laz-Y-Boy recliner in front of the TV, and generally loafing around. We’ll see. Stay tuned!
