Five Steps to Wellness
November 23rd, 2005 by Sarah WhiteI was just listening to an interesting phone call about health coaching and helping others to lose weight and live healthier lives. The conversation involved what the speaker called “Five Steps to Health,” which should be beneficial to anyone, regardless of whether they have a coach to help them along.
1. Hydration: We all know that we need to keep our bodies hydrated to keep things running smoothly in our bodies. The key is not to consider coffee and soft drinks as liquids. Drink as much water as possible, and filtered water if you can!
2. Walking: Or exercise of any kind, but the point is that just walking more (or moving more in any way) can benefit your health and reduce your weight in remarkable ways.
3. Cleansing: Of the colon. We spend so much energy and money on products to clean the outside of our bodies, but we don’t usually give much thought to the inside of our bodies. But matter getting backed up and rotting in the gut can cause all kinds of health problems, as well as making it harder to lose weight.
4. Nourishment: Nearly everyone needs to eat more fruits and vegetables, more fiber, less meat. This step is about being mindful about what you put in your body, using food as fuel and not eating more junk than healthy, beneficial foods.
5. Target your health concerns: If you’re worried about cancer, diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol, etc., you should research the particular foods you should eat and other things you should do to prevent those diseases.
This sounds like a really reasonable approach to weight loss and overall health. That’s because it includes all the things we already know are right: eat better food, move more, drink more water. It’s a good set of steps to think about while you’re planning your New Year’s resolutions.
