The Thirty Minute Walk

Posted on March 30th, 2008 by Janice Chambers in Diet Logs

Walking has many health benefits both emotionally and physically.

According to Good House Keeping Magazine,   taking roughly 10,000 steps per day sets off a chain reaction of physical benefits, including lower blood pressure, reduced risk for heart disease and better odds for preventing breast cancer.(March 30, 2008, goodhousekeeping.com.)

Walking is also an excellent way to reduce stress. Taking those extra strides each day allows you some personal time to think, sort things out, and to clear your head.

Ten thousand steps per day are equal to one hour of walking time each day.  Sometimes it is easier to take the thirty minute walk in the morning and the other thirty minute walk in the afternoon or evenings. Nevertheless, with each step that you take, you are adding years to your life.

I enjoy taking walks in the evenings after a long day at work. I take the early evening hours to walk around our block at least four or five times. Many times during my walk, I will meditate, and distress from the former events of the day. Thinking on positive things, and deleting the negative things always give my walk time an extra boost.

As a former patient of hypertention and hypothyroism, I strongly reccommend taking the thirty minute walk for the obvious health reasons. I feel ten years younger since I have made a committment to do the thirty minute walk.

Be good to yourself, take those steps to live , enjoy and to add years to your life.
