Find Your Eating “Style”
April 27th, 2008 by Kathy DoveSo many people start a diet only to get frustrated and give up, sometimes to the point of gaining back more weight than they had to begin with. Often this is because the diet they chose doesn’t fit them well.
Some people like to eat three square meals. Some like to eat a little, but several times a day. A meat and potatoes person probably won’t be satisfied with eating carrots and salad every day and for the rest of their lives. Consistency is the key to losing weight and keeping it off. This is why it’s important to find a “style” of eating that works for you.
You don’t have to cut out your favorite foods when dieting. If you love meat and potatoes, cook them in a more healthy way and decrease the portions. Add a salad or vegetables for more substance to your meal. This way you aren’t depriving yourself of your favorite foods, but are keeping them in balance to a healthier diet.
If you love sweets, you don’t have to cut those out either. Instead of eating a whole candy bar, buy a bag of miniatures and allow yourself one a day. This satisfies your craving without blowing your diet out of the water. Have sugar-free Jello with a spoon full of lite Cool Whip. It tastes great and has few calories.
By cutting down on portions of what you love, but still allowing them in your diet and filling in with larger portions of vegetables and fruits, you won’t feel so deprived.
The key is to find your personal style and work a healthy eating plan around that, one that will last a lifetime.
