The Beauty of Grazing

April 29th, 2008 by Brooke Hart

So, you know how you can start talking with your friends about weight and their little tricks?  I found myself on that road a couple of days ago with a friend, who is required to stay thin because of her job as a front musician.  She has been through the not so healthy avenues of dieting, where she will admit that the skinniest she was able to get was when she decided to just not eat.  Then, after admitting that didn’t work, (smile), she told me that what she does now is grazes.

The exact words were, “I don’t want to admit to being a cow, but I eat all day and all the time.  It’s what keeps me thin.”  After thinking about it for a while, I realized what she was trying to say.  She doesn’t have any meals.  She just eats.  Every time I would see her she would have a carrot or piece of celery in her mouth.  Rarely I would catch her with an actual snack that wasn’t a vegetable or fruit.  If she did eat a “meal” it’s because she was trying to put meat into her stomach instead of vegetables.

I’ve never seen anyone healthier.  According to her, and to me, it isn’t a diet.  It’s grazing.  It’s allowing yourself to eat healthy all of the time and to take in the food as you burn it.  By the way, she had a constant flow of energy going on.  Mostly because she was always eating and letting herself burn the fuel at the same time.

Your body is a lot like a car, where what you take in, you burn off.  If you want to loose weight - try the grazing diet.  Of course, it will take some extra work to get the fat off and to stop eating the high calorie stuff, but once you get into the habit of this type of lifestyle, you may find yourself with more energy and less fat.
