Health benefits of almonds

Posted on June 28th, 2009 by Nayab Naseer in Diet Logs

Almonds is a healthy dry fruit, if taken in moderation.

Almonds are rich in vitamin E, magnesium, potassium, zinc, iron, fibre, calcium, and monounsaturated fat. They are thus a great source of these essential ingredients for the human body, especially for vegetarians who do not have access to meat that provides these substances.

Almonds are found to reduce the risk of heart disease by lowering the LDL or bad blood cholesterol. They also contain Vitamin B17 that has anti-cancer properties. The high quantity of monounsaturated fat content in almonds lowers the risk of heart disease and cancer.

Almonds also tend to reduce the body mass indexes and thus aid in weight loss. This is actually a new finding and contrary to the earlier assumption that eating almonds leads to weight gains. Almonds are also high in protein and contain no carbohydrates, which make it the ideal protein source for diabetic patients and those with blood sugar issues.

Almonds are also said to nurture self control and calmness of the mind and nerves.
