Health benefits of apricots

The apricot is a healthy fruit, often underestimated and overlooked in favor of other fruits such as apple and pears. The apricot can be consumed either as a fresh fruit or a fried fruit. The dried fruit is more nutritious than the fresh fruit. There are many varieties of both the fresh and dried versions of apricots. The difference between the varieties however remain confined to appearance alone, and there is not much difference in taste and nutritional benefits amongst varieties.

The biggest advantage of apricots is its low calorie content. Apricots have the lowest calorie levels among all fruits.

Fresh apricots are excellent sources of Vitamins A, C, E, potassium, iron, fiber, and beta-carotene. In addition, they contain no fat and carbohydrates. These nutrients help preserve eyesight and prevent heart diseases and other ailments. They also help prevent the occurrence of prostrate cancer. They are also powerful antioxidants and consuming apricots strengthen the immune system. Consumption of apricots also improves digestion. Dried apricots, a popular dry fruit snack contain an even more quantity of all these nutrients, but they are also rich in carbohydrates.
